The Shipbreaker's Song

lyrics

This is the story of our lives, a tale as old as time
Passed down through generations
We work our fingers to the bone
This life is all we have and all we’ve ever known

In the shadow of these titans
Left to gather dust
Stainless steel leviathans
Consumed by rot and rust

From dawn to dusk we spend our days
Working our bodies to an early grave

Sing a song of breaking
Words of fire and unmaking
Swing the hammer, wield the axe
Ruined lives, reduced to worthless scrap

This is not the life we wanted
This is not what we were promised
These shattered skeletons of steel
Whose broken ribs now pierce the sky
Their metal skin, worn thin
By distance and by time

We work our fingers to the bone
This life is all we have and all we’ve ever known

Raise your hammers higher
Sing with every strike
Make your way down to the water
As the dawn begins to break

Life is short and death is cheap
In the shadow of these giants
Laid to rest upon the beach

Mired in the mud, and grounded on the sand
Paid for with our blood, broken by our hands

The more things change, the more they stay the same

In the belly of these behemoths
We spend our days
Picking the bones of forgotten gods
Rusting silent in their graves

Raise your hammers higher
Sing with every strike
Make your way down to the water
As the dawn begins dawn to break
