Terra Infirma
06:39
|
|||
Why won’t you open your eyes?
The water’s rising but the wells are running dry
The clock is ticking all the seconds rushing by
Counting down towards extinction
All the warnings we were given, have only fallen on deaf ears
The signs were there, but we didn’t want to listen
Always so certain, that we would all be saved
Terra infirma
Hollow is the ground beneath our feet
We built our houses on shifting sands
Laying our foundations in the ashes of the promised land
We lined our pockets, and laid our plans
We couldn’t stop it, not even if we wanted
It’s far too late, there’s too much blood upon our hands
How could we be so foolish, such arrogance and hubris
To think that we would never face the consequences
That we would never have to pay the price
And now it’s time to pay the piper
It’s time for us to reap the storm
It’s time for us to answer
For all the things we’ve done
There’s nowhere left for us to run to, there’s nowhere left for us to hide
There’s no-one we can turn to, no-one to save us from the rising tide
The writing’s on the wall now, and the walls are closing in
The shattered sky is falling, the world is ending once again
All the warnings we were given, have only fallen on deaf ears
The signs were there, but we didn’t want to listen
Always so certain, that we would all be saved
Terra infirma
Hollow is the ground beneath our feet

The Shipbreaker's Song
06:54
|
|||
This is the story of our lives, a tale as old as time
Passed down through generations
We work our fingers to the bone
This life is all we have and all we’ve ever known
In the shadow of these titans, left to gather dust
Stainless steel leviathans, consumed by rot and rust
From dawn to dusk we spend our days
Working our bodies to an early grave
Sing a song of breaking, words of fire and unmaking
Swing the hammer, wield the axe
Ruined lives, reduced to worthless scrap
This is not the life we wanted, this is not what we were promised
These shattered skeletons of steel, whose broken ribs now pierce the sky
Their metal skin, worn thin, by distance and by time
We work our fingers to the bone
This life is all we have and all we’ve known
Raise your hammers higher, sing with every strike
Make your way down to the water, as the dawn begins to break
Life is short and death is cheap
In the shadow of these giants
Laid to rest upon the beach
Mired in the mud, and grounded on the sand
Paid for with our blood, and broken by our hands
The more things change, the more they stay the same
In the belly of these behemoths, we spend our days
Picking the bones of forgotten gods, rusting silent in their graves
Raise your hammers higher, sing with every strike
Make your way down to the water, as the dawn begins to break

Cold Harbour
04:50
|
|||
Night falls fast, in the wilderness, and it seems to last forever
Night falls hard on the loneliest, so far away from home
Night falls dark, in the emptiness, with no light to guide our way
That’s why we huddle together for warmth, searching for a sanctuary
No safety, no shelter, for us in this cold harbour
There is no rest for the wicked or the weak
Unwanted guests unwelcome at the feast
No port in the storm, will offer us home
The line has been drawn, we are always alone
Every crooked smile conceals, mischief and malice, so cold and so callous
And every empty hand reveals, that there is nothing here for us
Time and again they turn us away, barring their windows and locking their doors
Time and again they keep us at bay, casting us out, into the dark once more
No safety and no shelter, for us in this cold harbour
And if we do not carry on, we will not live to see the dawn

Black Seas of Infinity
06:37
|
|||
What mortal men could ever comprehend (the abstract nature of infinity unbound)?
The wonder and the horror, of worlds without number (and existence without end)
What mercy it must be, to be so blind we can never truly see
What lies behind the curtain, what waits beyond the veil
A single glance, a single glimpse, would be enough to unravel our grip
A single touch, a single taste, would surely lay our minds to waste
What mortal man could ever truly understand (that our reality is nothing that it seems to be)?
Our insignificance, and our impermanence (a revelation that sanity cannot withstand)
For knowledge is power, to cure or corrupt
So let this be a warning, for all of those who seek to know too much
One man’s blessing is another’s endless curse that they cannot give up
This is our gift and our burden, knowledge we cannot forget
And so I stared, into the abyss, and it stared back with countless eyes
I felt its gaze, linger on my face, but what I saw I cannot truly describe
I have no words for what I witnessed
Nor can I speak of what it cost, all I have gained, all I have lost
But for a single moment, my eyes were truly open, at last
And I beheld before me a labyrinth of worlds
Stretched out in their glory like a tapestry unfurled
Careless in its beauty, endless in its bounty yet unclaimed
Without mercy or compassion, boundless and untamed
And only now do I truly understand
We are an island in an endless sea
Standing blind and naked on the shoreline of infinity
Clinging blindly to these tiny scraps of light
Unaware that we are all alone, in an ocean of night

Wanderers
07:23
|
|||
We are the wanderers, we are the lost
We are the weak and weary, weather-worn and tempest-tossed
We are all searching, searching for meaning, searching for purpose in this life
Searching for something, we can believe in, somewhere that we can belong
But the higher that we climb, the further we must fall again in time
And the longer that we strive, the harder we must struggle to survive
To keep our heads above the water, and hold our own against the tide
But every day the pull grows stronger, and we grow a little weaker inside
This is the ebb and the flow of our days, always unchanging but never the same
This is the rise and the fall of our lives, this is the pattern, the endless design
This is how our days pass by
We are all searching, searching for meaning, searching for purpose in this life
Searching for something, we can believe in, somewhere to belong
Life is just a wave, in temporary motion, searching for the shore
Until it breaks, and rejoins the ocean, returning to the source
We all go back, from whence we came
Becoming one with the ocean once again
We all return, to where we all began
And only then do we begin to understand
That there is no other way, the current is too strong
It always takes us back to where we truly belong
We knew this from the very start
Somehow we’ve known it all along
There is such solace and such peace
In the moment of acceptance
That nothing lasts forever
But nothing ever truly ends
Nothing is forgotten
No-one is ever truly gone
Because life is just a wave, in temporary motion, searching for the shore
Until it breaks, and rejoins the ocean, returning to the source

Widow's Walk
05:40
|
|||
This is where the widows walk, staring out across the ocean
This is where the widows wait, praying for their loved ones’ safe return
But as the days pass by, our fragile hope begins to die
How long must we wait for, any kind of answer
How long must we weep for, ‘til our tears have all run dry
How long must we grieve for, how long must we suffer...
How long must we mourn for, how much more of this can we endure?
Never knowing, never certain, if this will be our last goodbye
Never knowing, if this moment, will be the last one that we share
What were the last words that we spoke? Did we part in love or anger?
What would have changed if we had known? Is that why we seemed to linger?
How many tears have we all cried?
Not enough to drown our sorrow
How many years, how many have died?
Far away from those they loved the most
And who thinks of those they leave behind?
Watching the ocean and frozen in time
This is where the widows walk, staring out across the ocean
This is where the widows wait, praying for their loved ones’ safe return
This is where they walk
This is where they wait
This is where they mourn
This is where they come to pray
